The SBP Claim is the statement that biomass, such as wood pellets, wood chips, biocarbon, or other biomass‑derived products, meets the SBP requirements. It signals to the market that the biomass has been produced and traded in line with SBP’s legality and sustainability requirements, and that verified carbon and energy data are available for use by downstream customers.

What is an SBP Claim

The SBP Claim is the statement that biomass, such as wood pellets, wood chips, biocarbon, or other biomass‑derived products, meets the SBP requirements. It signals to the market that the biomass has been produced and traded in line with SBP’s legality and sustainability requirements, and that verified carbon and energy data are available for use by downstream customers.

Who can make an SBP Claim?

Only organisations that hold a valid SBP certificate are entitled to make an SBP claim and to pass that claim on through the supply chain.

Once a Biomass Producer (BP) successfully demonstrates compliance with SBP Standards, they are awarded an SBP certificate. This certificate entitles them to produce and sell biomass carrying the SBP claim.

Other organisations in the supply chain, such as Traders and End‑users, may also make an SBP claim when they hold an SBP certificate and receive biomass with an SBP claim from a certified organisation.
